Simple.

We like to be on the go.

& by that, it means we constantly feel the need to be running around. Coffee dates, thrift store adventures, and grocery store runs are our typical free evenings. Since Halloween, it seems as if  it has been run, run, run and we have been easily swept into the ‘always in a hurry’ mindset.

Finally, last week, we realized it is time to slow down and appreciate the simple moments.  Today, we did just that and woke up in absolutely no hurry to go anywhere fast.

& since we had decided to stay in for the day and enjoy the company of one another, we decided to bake a cake.  The enjoyment of gathering ingredients and seeing a final product within a few hours brings much happiness. We are especially happy if said final product is delicious.

Inspired by this recipe, we decided to put our own seasonal spin and replace the blueberries with cranberries. Yummy! It is highly suggested that you do not get caught in the holiday madness and enjoy a slow, simple day much like we did. Just maybe, bake this cranberry, buttermilk, & rosemary brown butter cake as well. It is a good one!

it’s not easy.

Marriage, it is beautiful but it is most definitely a challenge.

I am strong-willed and like for everything to be done in the way I think they should be . There are, of course, many pros and cons that come along with that. Sebastian, on the other hand, is easy-going and relaxed. I admire those qualities and often wish that they would rub off on me.

Everyone is different and everyone has their own stories, so take this how you will. I have learned very fast that compromise is huge within our own marriage. There are many days when the stress of work or conflicts make either one of us a bear to deal with. Our schedules vary and are never on the same page which makes quality time together almost impossible. The adjustment of moving five hours from the only home I have ever known has taken a huge toll on me. I have often let it get the best of me. He sees that and lets me cope in ways that I know how.

We are a team. We have been since the beginning of our relationship a few years ago but when we signed the piece of paper that had the word Matrimony along the top, it took it all to another level. We mess up, both of us. We say the wrong words and maybe we do not always act in the best interest of the other. We are human and mistakes most certainly happen (do not let anyone tell you otherwise).  We pick each other up and knock the dust off because at the end of the day, I am his and he is mine.  That, my friends, is all that matters.

In the words of Sebastian, “No marriage is all sunshine but two people can share an umbrella and survive the storm together.”

& so it begins.

This is it. This is the start of something new.

We love adventure, every single aspect of it. Our days would be spent roaming the world, soaking in new cultures and speaking to strangers (well, mostly Sebastian on that one) if we could have our way. However; after much consideration, we have realized that adventure does not necessarily mean ‘going somewhere’.  Our everyday lives are a voyage. We make decisions that will affect us in some way later on. Who knew six years ago that Sebastian would be placed in a small town and that I would make a decision not to move to the other side of Virginia (a story for another day). Decision after decision has landed us where we are today. Tiny expeditions of their own molding our lives.

As our new exploration begins and unwinds, we hope that you follow along with us as we document our everyday adventures.
